Cousin Ian Visits – Berkeley, Bubbles, and Seals
Christine’s cousin Ian is attending high school in a Utah boarding school. Knowing how much of a downgrade American school food is to a Taiwanese student, we invited him over for spring break to catch up on pearl milk tea, ramen, bibimbap, pho, sushi, and other ethnic foods in the Bay Area. I hope he had a good time hanging out with us and the kids as we go about our daily routines to making our annual trip out to see the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo.
Arden Mei mei in School
Mei mei was finally in school. She’s been crying for school ever since we came back from Taiwan in January because she wanted to go with Anders. I had no problem sending her to her class the first morning. She gave me a kiss, waived me goodbye and went off with the teacher immediately. I was peaking from the outside of the window while she saw me. She waved and re-focused on her dance again. I thought she’d never cry just like when I went to school the first day as a kid according to my mom. Hehe.. Nope! She followed the same pattern as Anders… 5 minutes to 20 minutes crying during transitions in the first three days; after that, she just started crying every morning whenever she heard, “Let’s get ready. Eat faster! We gonna...
Arden 2 Years Old
Time flies that Arden is already 2 years old today… I was going to have a little BBQ party at a park for her with her little friends but it’s been raining for a few weeks that the plan has fallen apart. Well, it never got to the point of starting planning. We ended up having brunch at our usual place, Tomate, going to the Berkeley Rose Garden, and the playground nearby. Too bad that the Rose Garden doesn’t blossom yet but we like the nice layout a lot and will definitely come back during the season. The highlight of the day is celebrating Arden’s birthday using gelato instead of a cake at Gelateria Naia. Anders and Arden don’t get to eat desserts or ice cream often so they had a great time. It was a nice cozy 2-years-old birthday...
Lego
It happened that both Anders and Arden started playing Lego around 23 months old. I was surprised to see Mei mei’s house when I came home last week. Then I remembered I was excited to see Anders’ work years ago too so I dug out the pictures. Surprisingly, it was also at 23 months old of Anders, exactly like Mei mei.
Arden Singing –
Anders Drawing and Painting
The first time we noticed that Anders could actually draw something meaningful was October 2010, at Grandma Hung’s new home in Laredo. He was drawing on the paper and naming what he drew. Surprisingly, I think they actually looked like what he claimed. He also loved filling colors and water painting. He used to do the water painting quite often at his old school, Five Canyon Montessori, but I never saw him in actions. He always mentioned it to me whenever he painted at school. So we got this little water paint with the book somewhere randomly and finally got the chance to use it. I wanted to do some work and thought this would kept him busy for a while. We were at Starbucks and the friendly staff came by and asked for a picture! Now that picture...
