911 CALLS REPORT POLE DANCING ON FREEWAY SHOULDER

Nothing beats a shimmy and shake to stop traffic. When commuters spotted a woman in a belly dancing get-up getting her groove on with a road sign, they called 911. It’s more than you might expect to see along the side of Interstate 880 in San Leandro on a Monday afternoon.

Hey… that is close to where I live!

The first call described a woman belly dancing along the right side of the road at 3:07 p.m. A minute later, drivers reported that she was using a light pole as a dancing prop and then a highway sign for a pole dance.

It wasn’t until she ran across the interstate that things got nasty, CHP officer Oscar Johnson said. The woman in a black halter top and black pants began screaming obscenities at drivers who nearly hit her as she dangerously shimmied across the highway, he said.

She must be mad that they weren’t tipping well…

By the time officers arrived at the scene, the woman had ducked into the brush near a homeless encampment and run away, Johnson said.

Into the brush barely clothed? Thats gotta hurt.

The Flight and First 48 Hours

dsc02662.jpgTaiwan, here we are!

As I was hoping, Anders was doing very well on the flight. With a bottle of milk during take-off, he slept the next four hours as he was supposed to and it gave me a chance to eat and rest from the worries before we boarded.

During the 14-hour flight, he was awake for 4 hours max in total and he was very cooperative to sleep while the meal was serving. :) Though I have to take him for a few walks throughout the journey and let him watch movies with me together occasionally, he didn’t get any complaints from the neighbor seats. It was a full flight and there were three babies at the front seats in the EVA Deluxe cabin including a 18-month-old next to Anders and I. You can imagine how crowed it was. The flight attendants were really nice and helpful and that made the journey much enjoyable.

What Anders was doing for most of the time…..

Thanks for grandpa and grandma Hung to pick us up at the airport. Anders seemed very happy to meet grandpa and grandma Hung at the airport and cooing and laughing in the taxi all the time. He was also excited to be back to grandpa and grandma Pu’s home as he continued his laughters while being held from one to another. He was absolutely the center of the attention.

Though the journey to Taiwan was such a pleasant experience, the following 48 hours were tough.

After grandma and grandpa Hung left, he took a couple short naps. However, he was always crying or fussy throughout the day and required being held all the time. One problem was also that we don’t have proper equipments here. Little Anders didn’t have his swing and exersaucer; and he can’t sit, crawl or walk by himself yet. With his current weight of 15 lbs, grandma Pu and mommy both had very sore arms in a few hours. The first night, he only slept 2 hours during feedings and he was awake and playing for 2.5 hours from 2:00AM to 4:30AM. The first 24 hours in Taiwan was tough.

I was worried when I woke up the second morning that the same 24 hours would repeat again. Surprisingly, it went well. Little piggy was in a good mood and he slept for 5 hours over lunch hours. I suddenly realized that he was also experiencing the jet-lag. With such a long nap, he was in a good mood again. We took him out to shop for a walker in the early evening and gave him a warm bath before his bedtime at 9:00 PM. Now it’s 4:00 in the morning and I’m writing this post peacefully with his sound sleep aside. :)

Hopefully he’ll be back to his happy self again soon.

New Report on Mercury in Sushi

Tuna

Yet another good thing in the world is dangerous thanks to humankind.  As if overfishing was not big enough of a concern, now the fish is contaminated beyond acceptable levels.

Recent NYTimes article reports very high level of mercury in Manhattan sushi maguro (tuna).  At first glance, I thought that it must have been your average sushi restaurant… not the NY elite!

Unfortunately, the tuna tested was from some of my favorites in NY… Masa, Nobu, Sushi of Gari, Blue Ribbon.  The amount of mercury in the tuna was so high in one restaurant, that only 1.6 pieces per week is required to reach your weekly recommended limit.   Full breakdown by restaurant.

Although only tuna was tested, one could easily extrapolate these results to my favorite hamachi (yellowtail) as well.  Both tuna and yellowtail are on the top of the fish food chain.

Slowly my joys in life are taken away one by one.  Anybody notice that we don’t have to go to LA for smog anymore?  I will save that for another post.

Going Back to Taiwan Tonight

imgp1209.jpgI’m as excited as usual about going back to Taiwan. However, this time, other than being excited, I’m also a little bit anxious and nervous since I’ll be bringing Anders along by MYSELF. It’s a 14 hours flight plus 2.5 hours bus/taxi.

Anders learned a new sound today and has been in such a good mood with making that sound. Hopefully his good mood will last through the whole journey home. I’ll let you you how it goes!

For the families and friends in Taiwan, I’ll see you soon!
