Relationship Between Happiness and Success

Filed under: Random Thoughts, Web Adventures — harrison at 1:06 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2006

A conversation I had with a friend today:

Ekman: no (happiness does not equal success)
Harrison: thanks. initially, i’m a “no” person too
Ekman: oh? and then?
Harrison: but then i think about it some more, and it feels like a hard question to answer
Harrison: i can’t really justify why “no” is more right than “yes”
Ekman: it does make you feel good to be successful.
Harrison: success can also be outside success
Harrison: and inside success may be different
Harrison: like maybe a great business-person.. he makes millions every year
Ekman: ok… and?
Harrison: making loads off of business ventures
Harrison: but he isn’t a happy person
Harrison: inside.. i mean
Ekman: so why he is not happy?
Harrison: maybe his wife isn’t that close to him
Harrison: i think he is happy in certain respects
Ekman: i see.
Harrison: but i think he is also unhappy
Ekman: well, may i offer a different perspective?

I actually won something!!

Filed under: Random Thoughts, Web Adventures — harrison at 3:01 pm on Monday, March 13, 2006

While sorting through my inbox this morning, I came across a curious email. It said:

You are receiving this email because you are the winner of the InkjetCartridge.com Boat-A-Day Giveaway. THIS IS NOT A SPAM EMAIL MESSAGE, you have been drawn as a Winner of the Boat Giveaway.

Congratulations!!! You’ve won one of our free Remote Controlled Speed Boats. I’m sure you want your prize as soon as possible; so let me tell you what I need in order for you to redeem your prize.

Although I was skeptical that this was just another spam message, I dRC Boatid actually order inkjet cartridges over the weekend. The email address matched the inkjetcartridge.com domain name as well.

So I responded to the email, and it was actually genuine promotion. I do not recall ever winning something from a promotion before, so this maybe a special moment in my life ;).

Morning Frost

I have been waking up around 5 am everyday for a month now. I guess my biological clock just decided on his own to set the Sat morning alarm for me as well. It was a sunny beautiful morening with lightly wet grouds. When I came down to the study room, I was supprised by the frost all over our deck. It’s slippery but pretty! A wonderful sunny icy Saturday morning……

Beautiful Spring Day

Filed under: Home & Garden, Photo Albums, Random Thoughts — harrison at 5:52 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2006

Spring leavesDecided to take a break today after lunch and walk around in the area between the house and the fence, known to some as the “YARD”. Now that I think about it… I am probably in the basement home office the most during during a normal 24 hour period, followed by the bedroom for sleep, and then the kitchen and living room for meals.

I rarely go outside to the lawn and look at the foliage and shrubs and trees that the previous owner has planted. Now after this little trip, I am beginning to think that the previous owners spent quite some time landscaping around the property.

Lemon TreeWhat I really started to appreciate is the lemon tree in the front yard. It is teaming full of lemons, and they are starting to drop to the ground as they ripen. Last couple of weeks, I have been thinking of ways to use the lemons somehow and have only come up with making lemonade. Recipes such as lemon meringue pie and lemon bars only call for a single cup or two of lemons. I need a recipe that uses a boat load of lemons!
